" Acarichthys heckelii (Muller and Troschel 1848) is, without doubt, one of the most attractive and sought after members of the neotropical geophagine cichlid assemblage. Although sporadically imported for many years and adjusting easily and well to aquarium life, Acarichthys heckelii had, until recently, resisted attempts to elicit reproduction in captivity. Baran (1981) reported perhaps the first viable spawning of this fish in the hobby literature.
