White Kyoga Flameback fry!!

One of my kyoga flamebacks released her fry the other day afterwards so I removed them to a smaller tank to raise them. Anyway, I noticed that there are four or five of the fry that are white. They are fully developed like the others and eating baby brine shrimp. I never heard of albino kyoga flameb...

Two Questions.

#1 I decided to try and strip one of my female Kyoga Flamebacks, she seemed that she was ready to spit any day now according to my count. But I must have been off by a lot. When the first fry came out it was still super small with a lot of its egg sac still not absorbed. Unable to get to it in the s...

Ctenochromis horei

Hey Pam I was wondering if you could tell me a little about Ctenochromis horei. I am having a hard time finding much on these guys. I'm wondering what would be a minimum tank size and stocking for them as well. I have read that they can be aggressive.

Cyprichromis Stocking?

Just wondering what would be a good number for stocking a 55g with Cyps? Most likely they would be Cyprichromis leptosoma. This setup would a species tank only as well. I am very interested in keeping this fish as I have never really kept an open water cichlid.

To Strip or not to Strip

I was wondering if I could get everyones opinion on stripping their mouth brooding africans. I have kept various mouthbrooders in the past and presently keeping White Labs and Demasoni. I stripped one female lab a few months ago and the fry are still doing well and growing steady. But I had to take ...

Pseudotropheus demasoni?

Hey Pam, I got another question for you. I was wondering about getting some Demasoni for a 75 gallon, instead of going with the Deep water haps. So my plan would be stocking the 75 gallon with White Labs and Demasoni. From what I have read it seems that the Demsasoni can be very aggressive, just won...

White Labs?

Hey, Pam I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about White Labs ( LABIDOCHROMIS CAERULEUS "NKHATA BAY" )? I am hoping to breed these fish as they are very rare for my area aswell as hope to breed some Cuckoo catfish with them aswell. But starting out I am just going with the La...

Brichardi finally bred.

I thought I would update you on my Bricahrdi species tank. It seems that 2 to 3 pairs have formed and have had a brood each. It is hard to tell exactly how many pairs there are as the parental care is so loose. I'm used to seeing cichlids having their fry in a tight little bunch and the parents taki...

Neolamprologus brichardi Diet?

Hey Pam, I recently purchased 10 juvi Brichardi in hopes they would pair off and I would be able to get some what of a colony going. I am very interested in their breeding and colony bahavior. They are all doing fine and eating well, but I was wondering what would you suggest for their total diet? I...

Tilapia Buttikoferi Diet?

Hey Pam, I recently purchased a 1" Butt, and am growing it out in a 33 gallon at the moment and then moving it up to m 75 gallon as it gets bulked up a little. It is feeding great, eating everything I drop in there, but I'm wondering to what vegetable matter I could feed it? I was hoping on get...

Pike ID?

I bought two pikes several weeks ago, but still cannot find out what species they are. I have found a picture online that looks just like the two I have. I hope the link I have posted works. Also I have been keepng cichlids for 8 or so years now, but I have never kept Pikes until now, I am having so...

Salvini Cichlids?

I was thinking about getting a trio of Cichlasoma Salvini and was wondering what methods are there for sexing them other than the common cichlid way of males having elongated dorsal fins. I have read the females have a spot on their dorsal fins as well on their gill plates. Do you know if there is a...
