Re: Change of color - Johanni blue
Hi shaunyappp, Cichlids can change their colors in a heart beat. It is due to the conditions they are in and what is going on in their environment. Cichlids are very territorial, but the biggest red flag I see in your post is the size of your aquarium. It is way too small for these types of cichlids...

Re: Aulonocara Food
Hi Agryman, I think a variety of foods are always best. These foods that you have listed should be fine for Aulonocara. Aulonocara do best on a basic cichlid flake. They love treats of worms, shrimp, krill etc. I don't feed treats everyday, but a couple of times a weed should be fine. The flakes and...

Re: Taiwan Reef
Hi tsantos!
Yes it could be added to a Taiwanee Reef Biotope aquarium. I like Labeotropheus they are fun to work with, and have some nice color. You should be able to find them around since they have been in the hobby for many years.

Re: Stocking Strategy
Hi Agryman, I think it is better to add all at one time, then they are all on equal ground. It can be impossible to add one fish at a time, because everyone else is established and they gang up will pick on anyone new. If you are worried about the females, then be sure to provide them plenty of cove...

Re: Altolamprologus Compresiceps
Hi Portugalc, Unfortunatley I have no idea how big your tank is.... I don't think it is wise to mix Malawi cichlids with Tanganyika cichlids, so I would discourage this. And I can't recommend keeping frontosa with compressiceps. Size is an issue, at some point the frontosa is going to be big enough ...

Re: Tropheus Murago Moba Variants Confusion
Hi Greg, By looking at your pictures I would say you have Tropheus sp. maculatus kikoti, the yellow murago. Based on their coloration and the size of the spots on the head. The yellow murago's have much smaller spots. Then Tropheus sp. maculatus mulunguzi is the green murago. It is much darker and t...

Re: Taiwan Reef
Hi Alexander, I think that is pretty neat that you want to do a Taiwanee Reef tank. Listed below are all the species found at Taiwanee Reef. Of course a few of these are too big to keep with Chindongo saulosi. This is the new scientific name for saulosi. Buccochromis heterotaenia (Trewavas, 1935), n...

Re: Cichlasoma portalegrense
Hi Yellowtiger, Yes, Cichlasoma portalegrense is still in the hobby, what a fun one that is to keep. I am sure they are available here in the states. If you are on FaceBook, check out the aquarium pages. Let people know you are looking, and you should be able to find some. Retail wise, I am sure the...

Hi Frank, Boy I have no idea.... You should post this on the CRC Forum, and see what they guys over there think. http://www.cichlidae.com/forum/index.php?sid=537eb63dd13a9c65a5b60c2297a54fe3 Or contact Willem Heijns group on face book - Heroine Cichlids - that is a pretty serious group, and they may...

Hi Rui,
I really have no idea?
There are a lot of hybrids going around, I think your guess is as good as mine.
Sorry,

Re: festae with tank mates
Hi livint, I am just not sure if that is possible. Definitely growing up the fish together certainly helps. They learn to tolerate each other. But, all I can see is a big tank full of mayhem! lol I suggest you look for people that have maybe done this before, and would have good info tankmates. Most...

Re: Scienochromis ahli
Hi balderman, Not sure if you are asking about the true Sciaenochromis ahli or Sciaenochromis fryeri? S. fryeri is quite common in the hobby, and called S. ahli for years. While the true ahli has rarely if at all been imported. S. ahli location sites: Localities: Chewere (Malawi, undefined), Likoma ...

Re: Hormoned enhanced Africans
Hi Brandy, It is definitely abused in the ornamental fish world. I don't know of any specific studies myself, but I would be more apt to look under papers that have been done on aquaculture for food fish; salmon, trout, tilapia. The reason some ornamental fish outlets use it is for sexing, this reas...

Hi Micichlidguy,
That doesn't look like a yellow lab to me. The head and mouth do not match as well as the coloration, it doesn't look right.
There are some nice ones out there, I hope you can find them.
