same old question!

Post by crawdad »

Pam. I know most of these questions are repitious ,however -I have 20 gal lon tank with live plants(can be removed) small gravel substrate.,and I have set up with a number of hidy holes . I have 10 small guppys in tank and I was going to incorporate a pair or trio of Borellie, or macmastereri or one of the other dwarf species . I now find that the area I live in ,the two nationally known pet stores carry mostly African cichlids and order from a specific list .No exceptions for special orders. Also the personell in both stores are fish ignorant when it comes to information or suggestions
I was hoping that you might give me the names of some African Dwarfs that would be suitable in my tank .I am not a bit familiar with these guys.
You might suggest how many would be best . My water is ammo -0,nitrate 5.0 PH 6.8 , temp 76 .
Thank you for your time Verne (crawdad ) :?:

Hi Crawdad,

If you are into Apisto's or may have an interst for cichlid dwarfs, I suggest these two sites:

http://www.apistogramma.com

http://www.thekrib.com

You'll have to do some research and find out which species you think you would like, you want to pick a couple, two or three. Or perhaps you want to try your hand with an easier species first like cacutoidees. Either way you need to immerse yourelf into this area of the cichlid hobby. Hanging out on these websites will broaden your apisto network. Chain stores are just not going to carry these type of fish, you should plan on buying them from a reliable breeder. The good news is they are easily shipped and in small boxes so the freight should not be too outrageous. Also check for local breeders in your area.

The dwarf cichlids are so special, you have this small compact fish that is 100% cichlid! Your tank conditions appears to be fine for any of the South American or West African riverene dwarfs.
