Can female cichlid make water milky when preparing to mate?

Post by dakiez »

I have 100 gal tank with 1 tiger (male) 1 red (female), they are separated by plexiglas. I've had them for three years now and no real problems. They are very healthy and super additions to our family. My question is this; from time to time the tank gets a little milky for no known reason. We don't have algae problems and other levels seem to be fine. Can the female make the water milky when gettting ready or wanting to mate?
It is the only thing that we can think of, we know that she is attempting to attract (drives the male crazy) during these times.

Any information appreciated

Hi Dana,

I have not ever heard of such thing. I think it has more to do with your filter and how much food you feed your fish.
