companions for African cichlids

Post by jazzy »

Hello

I have a Red jewel and a Peacock (Aulonocara huesheri) and two Bristle nosed catfish. Can you tell me what type of other fish will go well with them. Its a 120ltr tank with lots of rock, hiding places, airater, heater. and plants (no real plants). Thank you .

Hi Jazzy,

You have quite the mix there. I don't think it is good to mix fish from different areas. The jewel fish is from West Africa found in rivers, while the pleco's are from South America , found in the Amazon and then your peacock is found in Lake Malawi. They all have different water requirements and diets, and so it is going to be difficult to make everyone happy.

I think it is best to figure out which one you like the best, and then add fish that they are found with naturally. This makes your community tank more stable and your fish happier. Once you have your target fish, then you can research and come up with the perfect tankmates.
