Water Storage

Post by mccloudk »

Pam,

I currently keep and spawn a small number of German Rams in 5 or 6 tanks. I use a mixture of tap and RO water to get the PH down to about 6 and hardness to about 5 degrees. I start by filling about 4/5's of a 55 gallon drum with RO water then mix in about 10 gallons of tap water plus 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda ( I understand that this helps to stabilize PH) and 3/4 teaspoon of Seachem Acid Buffer.I also keep an air stone and heaters in the drum to circulate and heat the water. My question is should I add anything to the water if I plan on storing it for more then 3 or 4 days. On occassion a drum full of water will last 5 to 6 days or so. Could I add a few drops of Chlorine bleech when I make the water up and then use something like Prime to remove the chlorine?

Last question, if I really wanted to get some excellent breeding stock of German Rams....who should I contact?

Thanks,

Ken

Hi Ken!

Everyones water is different, so there really isn't a set recipe that is going to work for everyone. It looks like you are successful with your system, and that is what counts. As far as keeping water for 3 or 4 days or even a week or longer with your method using an air stone and heater you should be fine.

Yes you could add some chlorine, and then remove it with prime.

As far as good stock you really need to tap into the hobbyist circles, check and see if there are any clubs in your area. Also check out:
