Suprise at the Local Fish Store

Post by silverwatercichlids »

I've been breeding cichlids for the last 30 years and just recently moved to a new home. I don't have much room for my fish but set up my 125 anyway with my 7 frontosa. I walked into a local fish store recently and found a tank of 20 Tropheus Duboisi that mostly had lost their spots and some were holding. They wanted $15 a piece for them, but since they didn't really deal too much in cichlids I offered $10 a piece for 2 males and 15 females. Four of the females were holding in a 20 gallon tank. Well I brought them home and put them in my 55 and sold my quartet of snow whites and fuelleborni. They love their new home and are already eating like crazy.

The one thing I notice after about a week is that frequent water changes, like never before, are the key. I've enjoyed all the advice I have found here recently and thought I'd share a success story. Have already had one female spit three fry and they are doing fine in a mostly bare tank.

Greetings from the desert in Utah. We barely have enough water for our fish.

Hi Silverwatercichids!

I love a happy Tropheus story!!

That is great, a good buy, and a neat cichlid to work with!!

Keep up the water changes, and they will give you many years of enjoyment.
