Tropheus: which are more aggressive

Post by Juan Artigas »

Dear Pam,

Is there a more mellow Tropheus, one to chose when you are starting with them? which is less prone to Bloat and less aggressive?

Thanks. Juan Miguel

Hi Juan Miguel,

I really believe that all Tropheus are basically the same when it comes to diet, maintenance, spawning and aggression. Some people have expressed that some moorii are not as aggressive as others, for example: Tropheus moori "red rainbow." The theory is that they do not breed as readily since they are not as mean. I haven't been lucky enough to work with this species yet, so I can't say that is true from my own experience. Several people have told me that this is the case though. I can't wait to get some so I can find out for myself!

It would be great if there was a Tropheus that is not as susceptible to bloat as others, but unfortunately that is not the case. If you provide the proper conditions for your Tropheus bloat should not be a problem.
