Tropheus difference - how can I determine?

Post by ddaquaria »

I have been research tropheus for almost 2 months - trying to read ever article I can get my hands on before I purchased them for my 120.

This past weekend I purchased 4 Cape Kachese "red", and I have been looking at places on the internet in order to get more of them. After even more research, I cannot determine if these are really Kachese red or Ndole. Is there any factor that stands out on these fish in order to tell the difference?

Hi dd,

It is really hard to say, first off the sites Ndole and Kachese are quite close together, and second there are hardly any pictures available of these two different collection sites, and the ones that you can find show a lot of diversity. You just have to trust the source, and maybe compare your fish to what you can find available on the internet. Compounded with the fact that diet and light can drive color in your Tropheus too.

Since all Tropheus are similar in spawning and maintenance any article on the genus should help shed some light on how best to maintain this fun cichlid! Here is my 2 cents worth!

I hope that it works out for you, nothing worse than trying to work with only 4 tropheus at a time!
