Hi. If you had to ban one cichlid from the hobby which one would it be? For the sake of argument let's say that the answer "none" is not allowed, so you must choose one. You can choose a cichlid based on any criteria (e.g. don't like it, unsuitable for aquaria, often mistreated) and I'd be curious to hear the criteria too.
Cheers,

Trivial Q - banning a cichlid from a hobby
Life would be perfect if it weren't for this one little glitch....
Hi Ross!
I think I would ban Melanochromis auratus, that is one nasty fish. I don't like the way it looks, acts or swims!! It has beady eyes, a wicked mouth, and lousy color. What is sad, is that this fish is probably more available to new cichlid keepers than any other species out there. They practically sell it at seven-eleven, it would be hard to find someone who has never kept it. Not only does this fish prey on its tankmates, it preys on its new keepers. These new people typically buy a tank too small, and then the auratus, who loves the chase as much as the kill, takes over the tank. This results in frustration, and the tank ending up in the garage sale.
I hope that is what you had in mind!
