How much salt can this geophagus, and also S. jurupari tolerate, do you think? I don't mean to the point of brackish, but for long term medical purposes? It seems like such a good tankmate for my DBT turtles, which don't really need brackish water, but do need extra salt, to avoid shell rot.
Thanks, Kate

Hi Kate,
Salt is a big debate, you have your salt lovers and salt haters!! I try to walk the fence on the issue.
Salt used as a preventative med is at best a myth. It is not necessary and some think it can effect the fish; burn/sting/itching However, most agree that if you have a sick fish, treating with salt may be an option.
If you want to keep your Geo's in the optimum conditions, I would say no. I don't know anything about turtles, so I can't say what is best for them.
Cichlid Power!
