Pam,
I recently got 10 3" Geophagus Brasiliensis from a friend here in Utah who had been breeding them for a long time. The ones he has look a lot darker green than the ones I see online. Are there different color strains of these Geos?

Re: Geophagus Brasiliensis
Hi silverwatercichlids,
These Geophagus brasiliensis are fun to keep, and easy to breed. They are found at many different locations in Brazil, and they are also breeding these in Florida and Asia.
Also fish really like to blend in with their surroundings and they will be darker in a tank with dark gravel or back ground, or rocks. Like wise if they are in a barebottom tank with a flash on the camera, they can look washed out. Their diet can also be factor in their coloration.
I hope you have fun with them, they are beautiful Geophagus and they will lead you to other Geophagus types that are also really nice to keep and observe.
Enjoy!
Cichlid Power!
