Chindongo

Post by Maurice1981 »

With most lake Malawi species I'm interested in the origin of the names.
In this case Chindongo. Am I right that the Chin in Chindongo is named after you Pam? :D

Sorry for this silly question

Hey Maurice,

Ha ha! That would be cool!!!

Etymology: masculine, The name Chindongo is a commonly-used name for “small, rock-dwelling fish” in the local vernacular of Malawi, much more so than the word "Mbuna" which is used only in the northern part of the country.

It is easy to pick up the local lingo, and here they used it to name a fish!
