Steatocranus casuarius?

Post by Fish Guy »

I was wondering if you could tell me a little about these fish? I'm planning on putting them in with Ps.saulosi, sunshine peacocks, and red empress, so will it be ok in there?

Hi Matt,

Well I really don't like to recommend keeping cichlids from two different areas, especially when it comes to rivers vs. lakes. Steatocranus casuarius is a riverene cichlid from West Africa. They are found hopping around on the rocks in very fast moving water, which gives you a clue on how to keep them. They like their water clean and highly oxgenated. However, this is one cichlid that you may be able to get away with mixing in with your Malawi cichlids. Just make sure you have plenty of places for them to hide and get away from others if need be. They are vegetarians too, so they will do fine on a primarily green diet.
