EYE DISEASE

Post by santos »

Any one know what this could be. It started with a small white spot, almost as if it was a small tick, then after 5 days of treatment with metronidazole, it has gone worse. It probably wont survive but would be good to know peoples view. Maybe for next time.
I dont know how to attach pics. But here is a link with the pics.

Hi Santos,

You'll have to decide whether it is some type of injury that caused this, tankmates, running into rocks? Or are there other symptoms that might lead you to believe; like a infection or growth from within? Injury or disease to the eyes are are really hard to whip. Unfortunately eyes are the only part of a fish that they can't grow back. Cichlids are pretty good at surviving eye injuries, they may lose the eye, or it may stay glassed over. The best thing you can do is water changes, you should remove to a hospital tank. You want to provide really clean water to make sure it doesn't get infected or worse. Healthy one eyed fish can do well in community aquariums as long as there isn't any tankmates that are likely to take advantage of the situation. They learn to find food and can even breed.

Hope it works out for you,
