breeding xenotilapia cherry princess
I have 8 wild cherry princess that have settled down after about 5 months. I spent so much on these that I believe it would be a waste if I cannot breed them. can anyone provide me with tank size, water conditions, food etc. info. to increase chances of success
Re: breeding xenotilapia cherry princess
Hi Jen,
The current scientific name is Xenotilapia nigrolabiata Cherry Princess or Red Princess.
I think they should be kept in a species only tank, minimum 4' long, 6' long would be best. Temperature 76 degress F., pH as high as you can get it. 9.0 would ideal. They need a good quality cichlid flake and then supplement their diet with high protein treats of mosquito larvae, freeze dried mysis or krill, fed 2-3 times a week. This will help get them in breeding condition. Regular water changes are important, get into a routine and stick with it. Some suggest low lighting, and fine sand to replicate their natural habitat.
Good Luck it is a beauty!
CIchlid Power!
