Jewel identification

Post by Captain Jim »

http://jimbosstuff.shutterfly.com Hi, Pam..I bought these red jewels from a stranger in Mississippi, and they paired up and spawned a week after I got them(three pairs). Tropheus from Cichlid forum says he thinks they are H. guttatus, but not sure- told me to check with you. Can you tell if there is Lifalli blood or any thing there? :)

Hi Captain,

To ID fish you really need closer pictures, many times it necessary to look at other features to be exact. I can't tell much other then it is a jewel fish, but as too its orgin, I would only be guessing. And my guess is guattus, since it is the most common Jewel we see in the hobby. The majority of these jewels in the mainstream of the hobby are from asia, which is famous for quantity but not quality and so many of these fish have genetic pollution. So it is going to be hard to verify anything.
