setting up a new tank

Post by trkr75 »

Hi Pam,

I am new to the cichlid fish but not to tanks in general, I have a 75 gal. and am wanting to pt cichlids in it in my SCUBA shop here in TN. I am looking for the most color I can get I have alot of slate rock and a few big pieces of dive gear they can hang out in. Any help with the type of cichlids would be great.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Well if you are looking for color and action then you certainly want to work with Malawi Cichlids, as they have great color. They will love the slate rock and also the dive gear! However there are about 800 to choose from!! So you will have to do a bit of research. I'll give you a few names to look up and you can just paste them in to google and then hit the image button to get an idea what they look like.

Labidiochromis caeruleus
Metriclima zebra
Cynotilapia edwardi, actually any from the Cynotilpia family are good choices
Cyrtocara moorii
Scieanochromis fryeri
Aulonocara jacobfreibergi

This is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak, the first name is the genus and the second is the species, You should be able to do 8 - 12 fish in a tank of your size, depending on which species you pick

Please come back if you have any more questions.
