We explain why the diagnostic differences between Lepidiolamprologus kendalli (Poll & Stewart, 1977) and the recently described Lepidiolamprologus kamambae Kullander, Karlsson & Karlsson, 2012 are not sufficient to consider them as separate species, and hence we propose the reclassification of Lepidiolamprologus kamambae as a subspecies of L. kendalli. Lamprologus nkambae Staeck, 1978 should remain a synonym of L. kendalli since its shows no significant external diagnosable features.
