Evert van Ammelrooy (born 1974) from Dordrecht, the Netherlands has been been keeping tropical fish since childhood. Fascinated by cichlids from lake Tanganyika, Evert has so far since 2000 visited the lake eleven times (Zambia six times, and Tanzania five times from Gombe to Mahale), and done over 400 dives.

Evert is specialized in diving in deep water, sometimes also at night, and most of his dives has been below 40 meters, making him able to observe and photograph many species never seen alive before, among them the famous Xenotilapia nigrolabiata 'Red Princess', X. caudafasciata, Reganochromis calliurus, Bathybates ferox and Limnochromis staneri.

Beside visiting lake Tanganyika as often as possible, Evert own and run 'De Maanvis', a fishstore in Dordrecht.
