Re: Registration is Now Open for 2014 Extravaganza

We realize that many of our annual attendees have developed yearly Extravaganza habits...I know I have. This year we're hoping that, for one year, attendees can adjust their habits for this special celebration. (I'll have to adjust my habits, but then, being retired, it's easier for me.) We know it...

Re: Stone bottom aquarium?

When I was much younger many years ago, a friend of mine had a chrome Metaframe frame tank that had a slate bottom. Here is a 10 gallon on Ebay with some water in it, went for $125 ! http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Nzc4WDgwMA==/z/9JkAAOxyBotTXTqd/$_57.JPG I still use my 5 gallon Metaframe tank but it does...

Re: Registration is Now Open for 2014 Extravaganza

I have visited the Cleveland Aquarium during the last two OCA Extravaganza weekends. Despite its small size, it has nice displays, especially the native fish habitats that are similar to ours here on the other side of Lake Erie ;) I would love to see behind the scenes, but I don't think I can get th...

Looking at the photo and at that size, I would say Iporangensis

Good Luck, I am sure you will be successful spawning them :)

Re: Confirmation of ID

Hi Lisa, I have kept Iporangensis in the past. They are longer, more slender than Brasiliensis. Brasiliensis tend to be rounder, and have a taller body like a severum. So if you fish rounds out, it is probably a Brasiliensis, if it stretches out longer, then probably Iporangensis :) How big are they...

Re: Ridding tank of Malaysian trumpet snails

There just are not many reliable importers left, especially in Canada. Since relocating way out here to Calgary 3 years ago, I haven't been back to OCA, but looks like I just might have to consider that next fall again! Thanks again! Here in Canada, you can try Spencer Jack in Winnipeg, his latest ...

Re: Camera

For beginners, I suggest they try photos from various angles and using the various settings on their camera. When you take 100 photos, you will learn what works for the lighting in that aquarium, and by the way, you may have to take another 100 photos on your other aquarium, because chances are that...

Re: American cichlids Evolution

Thanks Willem That is a very interesting suggestion for the origin/progression of Central American Cichlids. By the way, I really enjoyed your presentation on Mexican Cichlids at the OCA. I have not watched your DVD yet, I am saving it for some cold and dark evening in the middle of winter, I am sur...

Re: American cichlids Evolution

I attended a presentation on the evolution of Cichlids that Ad gave at the Ohio Cichlid Association Convention last month. He mentioned that research and theories have been revised many times in the last 25 years, but there is still much discussion due to the absence of fossil evidence to support on...

Just wondering, what was the postage cost from Netherlands to Australia for that book ?

When I bought a different used book from a seller in California, the postage cost to Canada was more than the book

Re: Eartheaters book

I have lent my copy to other aquarists many times, it just can not be found  Which is why I don't lend my books out. I've lost too many in the past. Actually, what I meant was others are always borrowing my copy because they can not otherwise find it. When ever I lend a book to someone, I al...
