Cichlid behavior... please help!

Post by Cichlidlove » Mon Oct 07, 2019 1:24 am

I did a pretty good water change on my cichlid tank 2 days ago (about a 50 %) the tank is a 65 gallon. I’ve had it about 9 months all of my fish are doing excellent & have gotten quite big!
Since this water change some of my cichlids are at the top of the tank with their mouths and just sitting there breathing in this position. They aren’t as active now, and they seem to be taking bigger breaths now as well. Any advice? What is causing this? Should I be doing another change?
They’ve never had these issues before. Any advice will be very helpful! Thanks!

They lack sufficient oxygen.

Now I don´t know what water you used, but osmosis water is completely free of oxygen, and needs to be bubbled with air for 24 hours before using it. However, in that case you will do better next time and for now± it will pass

It could also be - in the Netherlands our tapwater is free of chlorine, but in many countries it is not - that this chlorine hurt the gills of your fishes. in that case, you are in trouble, but help maigh be available locally.
