Wayne Liebel

Post by Lisachromis »

From the Tropical Fish Hobbyist Facebook page

"We were greatly saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Wayne S. Leibel, PhD, this past Sunday, May 16. Wayne was a valued colleague, cichlid expert, and an incredible friend. Wayne is perhaps best remembered by readers of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine for the numerous columns and articles he wrote for us over the many years he was a regular contributor, including “Wayne’s New World,” and “Cichlidophiles,” as well as several books. He was a lifelong educator, a professor of biology at Lafayette College, and brought a genial, approachable attitude to teaching, which was reflected in his writing.
Wayne was a fellow of the American Cichlid Association, and editor of their publication, the Buntbarsche Bulletin. He was a naturalist, and also a musician, (in)famous for his skill playing the accordion, an instrument that perfectly suited his puckish sense of humor. Wayne was a humble, down-to-Earth man who rankled at being called “Dr. Leibel.” He was a friend to everyone who met him, and called himself a cheerleader for the aquarium hobby.
May his memory be a blessing."
