I agree with you here Jon - many more people would see a discussion like this on something like facebook (assuming it isn't promptly buried by garbage). Just wanted to troll Danko about his lonely post.

I would, but you see, first I’ve got to check my email.... which tells me if there’s been a response. Then I’ve got to click the link in the email body to get here, click the auto fill in for the password, then read your message. All this equals a pain the ass. If i were to get a Facebook notification through the app I’d just click on it and see your message. But that’s too fast and convenient. We’ve got to make sure we delay things as much as possible.

Don't think that Facebook is the solve it all for low traffic. I really just think it is the hustle and bustle of society that causes people to concentrate and spend there time doing other things. I don't have social media accounts, and many people I know say they do not even respond to 95% of what they get.
