Tanganyika: Kasakalawe

Artenschutz: Water pollution and overfishing are the greatest risks. The population around the lake has tripled in the last 20 years, Currently (in 2022) it is estimated that 150,000 people live in the Mpulungu District. Soon you will not be able to tell where Kasakalawe ends and the city of Mpulungu begins as the population swells in this area.

Fisherman from this area regularly fish in the Lake and use a variety of different methods, including the illegal use of seine nets on the beaches and gill nets in shallow rocky water.
