Tanganyika: Mabilibili

Conservación: Water pollution is still a risk even though no people are living at Mabilibili Bay. It is only a few kilometers south to Sibwesa, where the population has tripled over the last 20 years.

Overfishing is the greatest risk because fishing of any kind is prohibited in Mahale Mountains National Park; including 2 km from the shoreline. This increases the pressure on the fish populations south of the park and into Sibwesa. There are more fishermen now than ever before. Like in most places in Africa, Tanzania has fishing rules and regulations, but there is little or no enforcement.
