Yojoa: Lake Yojoa
Conservation: According to the Honduras press, Lake Yojoa, found in the protected area "Lago de Yojoa", is severely polluted by human settlements sewage, farms and industry and has been the object for the introduction of highly detrimental predators, like Micropterus salmoides which have affected the native fauna. Lake Yojoa has been recently protected (Mar-2005) by a new law issued by the Honduras parlament. If the law is enforced and positive effects are obtained from it we will have to wait and see (El Heraldo de Honduras, March 5, 2009).
