" Apistogramma huascar sp. n. is described based on a total of 12 specimens, taken from a little forest tributary of the Rio Nanaý southwest of Iquitos, Departamento Loreto, Peru. The species is a representative of the Apistogramma-nijsseni-complex. This twin-species of Apistogramma atahualpa is separated from all other Apistogramma-species by the black pattern and live colouration, which includes a lateral band, two to four abdominal stripes consisting of upright spots, in females silvery white dorsal fin, dorsal spots stretching onto the dorsal fin base, lyreate caudal fin, broadened cheek stripe, and yellow to orange brest of males "
