By Klee, Albert J

Buntbarsche Bulletin, (239):14-20 kwi-2007

" Fish were important in ancient Egypt both in religion and in aquaculture (Klee 2005). In the latter, Tilapia (notably Oreochromis and possibly Sarotherodon) reigned supreme. In the TiSaqqara wall paintings, for example, although clearly meant to present a wide range of different Nile fish, virtually all of the fish being processed for consumption in the illustrations seem to be Tilapia. It is also the most-mentioned fish in Old Kingdom texts (von den Driesch, 1983) "
