" One of the best known Central American cichlids is no doubt the species that has been called Cichlasoma citrinellum (the Midas cichlid) by many cichlid keepers, and that now goes by the name Amphilophus citrinellus. I have myself kept this cichlid for the first time about 25 years ago, despite all the warnings concerning the aggressive character of this species. All I knew was that this was a fish that started life with a striped colour pattern and turned to a golden colour (hence the name, referring to a king that turned anything he touched into gold) as an adult. Through the years my ideas have changed immensely. Midas cichlids (if you can still use that name for them) occur in all shapes and sizes "
