Conservation: Astatotilapia calliptera is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2010). Although the species is often collected by hook and line fishermen in the rivers surrounding the lake, it does not seem to be endangered in its existence.
