Ochrona: Copadichromis borleyi jest wpisany prez Międzynarodową Unię Ochrony Przyrody do Czerwonej Księgi Gatunków Zagrożonych IUCN jako (LC) Najmniejszej troski (2006). Copadichromis borleyi belongs to the few utaka that is only marginally affected by the massive over-fishing going on in Lake Malawi. Utaka are the heaviest hit by local fishermen but C. borleyi prefers to stay close to the rocky habitat and often alongside large boulders. Chirmila nets, the typical nets used for utaka fisheries, cannot be employed near rocky substrates.
