Conservation: Copadichromis trewavasae is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2006). C. trewavasae has a rather wide distribution over several parts of the lake and although utaka are most often caught by fishermen, members of the C. mbenjii group are less affected by their efforts.
