Conservation: Metriaclima aurora is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). This species is endemic to Lake Malawi, known from five sites (Likoma Island, Chizumulu Island, Mara Point, Mbweca, and Tumbi Point). There is no foreseeable major threat from either sedimentation or extraction by the ornamental fish trade and the species ([ref2=12066]).
