Conservation: Metriaclima hajomaylandi is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). Collection for the ornamental fish trade is a threat to M. hajomaylandi but there has been no noticeable decline in the population over about four decades of extraction. It is of no importance to subsistence fishermen and since it resides in intermediate habitats it is rarely collected in seines as by-catch.
