Conservation: Metriaclima lanisticola is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. Metriaclima lanisticola is registered under Pseudotropheus livingstonii with the IUCN (based on old data from Ribbink et al. ([ref1=1386]) and Konings ([ref1=1582])). The shell-dwelling M. lanisticola does not seem to be threatened in any way as it could only end up in trawler nets which appear no longer being employed on Lake Malawi.
