Conservation: Corematodus shiranus est évalué par l'Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature dans la Liste Rouge des espèces menacées comme étant (LC) Peu menacée (2006). I have never seen a single individual alive and the species is thus very rare. The recent over-fishing in the southern part of the lake has severely decreased the populations of Oreochromis and probably with it also Corematodus shiranus.
