Synonyms (1):

Conservation: Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). The fact that Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis inhabits shallow water on a regular basis makes it very prone to be caught in beach seines. It is still a common cichlid in the Cape Maclear area but its large size makes it a much wanted food fish and can thus become easily threatened by over-fishing.
