Original description as Gobiochromis tinanti:

  • Poll, Max. 1939. "Les poissons du Stanley-Pool". Annales du Musée du Congo Belge. (Ser1)1-60 (crc00353)

Conservation: Steatocranus tinanti is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2009). An absolutely impressive and wonderful species. Looks like a beast, but in reality it is a shy and harmless cichlid. Big and dominant males are one of the most impressive sights in cichlids.
