Some populations of Xenotilapia singularis, e.g. at Ndole Bay [Zambia], are under pressure from fishing with large seine-nets on the sandy beaches (Ad Konings, personal communication). Also the collection of live individuals for the aquarium trade has had a negative impact on populations (especially at Ndole Bay). Years ago large individuals up to a total-length of 14 cm was quite normal in imports, but nowadays the specimens shipped out often do not exceed 7 cm.
