Conservation: Pseudetroplus maculatus is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2019). The species is widespread and, while it is declining in parts of its range, it is not thought that any global population decrease is happening. Wild populations of Pseudetroplus maculatus are subject to various pressures, such as Pollution, habitat destruction, habitat degradation, land reclamation, and exploitation for food and commercial interests are threats to this species. In Sri Lanka, this species faces competition and predation from the invasive alien species Oreochromis mossambicus which competes for similar habitats (Abraham et al., 2019).
