  • Varella, Henrique Rosa & J. Zuanon, S.O. Kullander & H. López-Fernández. 2016. "Teleocichla preta, a new species of cichlid from the Rio Xingu Basin in Brazil (Teleostei: Cichlidae)". Journal of Fish Biology. pp. 1-19 (crc07338) (abstract)

Conservation: Teleocichla preta is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. The lower Rio Xingu is severely threatened by increased anthropogenic development. The Belo Monte dam will flood several shallow rapids, home to Teleocichla preta and dozens of endemic species with likely devastating effects.
