Artenschutz: Ptychochromis curvidens wurde durch die Internationale Union für die Erhaltung der Natur (IUZN) in der Roten Liste bedrohter Arten bewertet als (DD) Daten unzureichend (2017). According to Patrick de Rham (in litt.), the conservation status of Ptychochromis curvidens is difficult to assess. The species is not abundant anywhere within its range and exotic fishes, especially Oreochromis sp., are present in the region. However, several other native species persist in reasonable numbers and exotic species are not abundant, suggesting that the ecosystem remains relatively healthy. This is further indicated by a diverse aquatic flora recorded at many sample sites, where endemic plant species such as Aponogeton cf. bovinianus remain plentiful. Human populations in these remote and poorly accessible regions remain small, and fishing pressure is consequently also low (Stiassny et al., 2006).
