Ochrona: Perissodus straeleni jest wpisany prez Międzynarodową Unię Ochrony Przyrody do Czerwonej Księgi Gatunków Zagrożonych IUCN jako (LC) Najmniejszej troski (2006). Most scale-eaters are relatively common species, because although they are piscivores they don't kill their victims. P. straeleni is not a very common species but probably constitutes 0.1-1% of the local fish population at any rocky habitat. The two ways fishers can collect rock-dwelling cichlids is by placing gill nets or use hook and line. Gill nets are detrimental to rock-dwelling cichlids but P. straeleni has a lake-wide distribution and doesn't appear to be threatened by overfishing.
