While part of the area of distribution of Amatitlania septemfasciata is located inside biosphere reserves in Costa Rica, the lowlands in the southern part of their range is however located in the banana plantations area of Costa Rica in the Limon province, where rivers have been severely affected by their modification, the fertilizers and insecticides used in the banana farming industry. Having this cichlid such a reduced distribution range, this can be of concern to the populations’ stability.
