Conservation: Protomelas sp. 'oxyrhynchus mix' is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. P. sp. ‘oxyrhynchus mix’ is a rare species and is vulnerable to being over-fished as it lives in shallow flat-bottomed areas. Since it has been discovered in recent years there is no indication whether it was more common 20-30 years ago.
