Conservation: Cynotilapia chilundu is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2018). Mainly caused by the very restricted distribution area C. chilundu should be classified as vulnerable to extinction. It is not a species high on the list of ornamental fish collectors and is also not targeted by local fishermen, so any threat to this species in particular has to come as a threat to its environment.
