Original description as Apistogramma panduro:

ZooBank:D56ABA9B-FFD3-4D0C-A01D-A3420B0477DB.

  • Römer, Uwe. 1997. "Diagnoses of two new dwarf cichlids (Teleostei; Perciformes) from Peru, Apistogramma atahualpa and Apistogramma panduro n. spp". Buntbarsche Bulletin. (182):9-14 (crc00360)

Conservation: Apistogramma panduro is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2014). Apistogramma panduro, just like many other Peruvian Apistogramma species, is limited to small streams flowing under dense forest. This, in face of the increasing deforestation and mining (often illegal) in Peru exposes Apistogramma panduro to threat. Luckily, the vast majority of the species' distribution area has recently (2009) been included in the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Regional Conservation Area (Área de conservación regional Comunal Tamshiyacu Tahuayo). Hopefully this will secure the future of this little gem and other species of animals and plants found in this bio-diverse area.
