Conservation: Apistogramma pedunculata is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (NT) near threatened (2019). Even though it has a wide extent of occurrence, the area of occupancy of this species is small (36 km2). It only occurs in two rivers, which are very far from each other, the subpopulation in the Caura River is threatened because of log extraction and water pollution related to gold mining. There are three illegal gold mines within the distribution area of the population within the Lower Caura River, affecting this subpopulation through habitat loss and degradation (Echeverria, 2019).
